Going Through Changes

Nothing major... just moving, contemplating a dye job, and looking for signs in the stars more than ever before.

The hunt for a new apartment has been brutal, okay, not necessarily brutal, simply,, tough. Trudging through the murky waters of brokers and their silly made-up fees, it's a scammer's paradise over here. T-minus three days until we have to move out and not a signed lease in site.

No doubt we will find the perfect place soon enough. I've been an absolute hound on these tours, filming everything, pepper spray and full heavy hydro flask in tow, staying vigilant of creepos and cognisant of sun directions. I always pull my compass out. Don't doubt me.

Real Quick, let's discuss these killer photos and my outfit. Photos were taken by the ever-talented Maria Wurtz. Maria is truly a stunning, glowy soul, a fast friend, and a wickedly talented photographer. I haven't had this much fun on a photoshoot in a while.

Structurally, this outfit is one of my favorite formats: a flouncy textured first layer under a straight silhouette mid-layer, topped with an additional, different type of texture on top. It's a texture sandwich! And obviously, no outfit is complete without many a jewel, a beret because,  duh, don't be crazy, and my prize possession, Melissas.

Working our way up from there, the tights are Lazy Oaf- a total winner in the socks and tights department, trust. The dress I rented from nuuly, I'll go on a (positive) nuuly rant another time. But know that I love this service so dearly, it has truly been a life changer for me as a professional, certified, trademarked fashion girlie. The blazer I successfully thrifted while in Sacramento, at the, THE Thrift Town from Lady Bird. The vest I've owned for eons. The necklace was gifted to me by my brother this past Christmas from the American Folk Art Museum here in NYC. Earrings and rings are some brand of hand-me-down from my mothergrandmotheraunt. Don't forget to peep the Bejeweled bracelet. My beret, dare I say.... is Forever 21 from high school. Glasses, don't know, don't ask. Lastly, BAGS! Bags are made by someone who's name is escaping my brain, but I'll go chase after it sometime this afternoon and fill you in later...

As mentioned, the move isn't the only change. Maybe it's the meds, maybe it's the sun sticking around longer and longer every day. The springtime mood shift is in the air. Of course, I'm a colorful winter fashionista, but the outfits are getting funkier, brighter, and more me.

Though I'm up to my neck in spackle and bubble wrap, stress is high, but it's a comforting stress, a stress that can only occur knowing good change is in the future. I must work through this madness to find sanity at the end of the road!!!!!!!!!! I'm sprinting, believe me.

I'm grasping more control of my filter, feeling stronger and more confident in my decisions, something I was never too talented at. Therapy has been a huge help (thanks, Martha), but even as I further myself in my career, as friendships and relationships change, I remain true to myself, and my feet are planted firmly where I stand. Despite the literal cross-city move I'm making, of course. It's nice to be amidst such chaos and still find my footing. That's new to me. It's rewarding, and I find myself feeling proud of my own growth and behavior!

I toured an apartment today that really felt right; it had everything I could ever wish for!! Dream of me tonight in my beautiful new apartment with my private rooftop, big windows, and art studio space... I'll be dreaming of you...

Okay okay okay... You already know what I'm going to say don't you... everyone say it with me, "Hey guys! I know it'd been a while, but this time I really want to be better at posting more consistently."

We know what the reality is though, I love this blog with my whole heart, but sometimes I really do forget that it exists, I get in my head and worry that no one will read, no one will enjoy the posts, but I REALLY want to have it as an archive for the future! I want to come back here and see this snazzy new haircut! See where I was in this time of my life! See what I was wearing, read what I was going through, all that stuff! So with this I give you a ✨life update✨

As we know, I'm still living at home! Very grateful to be doing so, I seriously do love it here... Especially as all the flowers are blooming and people are getting vaccinated, Richmond is coming alive again! I have been loving taking long walks everyday, journaling in the park, going on picnics and really savoring the little moments I do have while I'm still here.

I have been applying for jobs again!! I have a few things in the works at the moment, but I won't spoil anything for the sake of potentially jinxing myself! But just know that i'm VERY excited about what's possibly in store for me! Another reason why I am loving savoring my time here in Richmond, I hopefully will be moving sometime soon! I feel like I say that a lot, but this time it's for real :-)

Things with Reece are going really well! (Reece is my boyfriend, is this news to you? I really don't know if I've mentioned him on here yet, oops!! Peep my instagram for some cutie pics of him hehe) He actually just got a job in NYC! Very excited for him!

This week my whole family is in town!! Which is just delightful :-) Mimi came to visit after a whole year and a half of not coming here due to COVID! Saunders came to visit while she was here for a while and then surprise surprise, Emma flew in on Saturday night!! I had no idea she was coming, it was SUCH a fun surprise! It's so amazing to have everyone together here again! I really cant believe it's been over a year since we've all been under the same roof! HUGE shoutout to the Pfizer Vaccine for sponsoring this family gathering lol. BUT for real! I got my first vaccination two weeks ago, I could not be more excited about the world being on the mend now! Here's to a bright, shiny, HEALTHY, healing future!!

More to come soon <3 xo, O

Starting My Job and Other New Things

Tuesday, May 12, 2020

Good Morning Quarantine Cuties! This week marks my second week of starting my new job at Cherie! I want to be completely honest with you all since I'm officially treating this blog as my ~*quarantine diary*~ (I do still have my actual diary where I am much MUCH more honest but that's top secret, exclusive content, and you can access it with a small payment of $15.95 on my OnlyFans page..... im kidding im kidding...)

So MY JOB! Where we're we... it's TOUGH! I want to start off by saying I absolutely love my team, everyone is SO NICE, super cool, and fun, I can't wait to hopefully get to LA soon to meet them for real. I love our app and blog and what not, but boy was I not ready to play grown ups this soon. Being in school full time, and being three hours ahead, which of course doesn't sound like much, but working some nights until after 11, its a lot.

Also I feel like I'm asking questions 24/7 which I think is annoying, but I know I'm just getting used to the groove of the team and the way they work. I honestly just think that the timing of everything is weird. Ideally, obviously I would rather be IN LA getting started on my job for the first time, this period is just so weird.

You know how you can't read tone over text? Try submitting work for resubmission a million times and not knowing if their reactions are good or bad.... I'm working on being able to take criticism better, but it's a learning curve for sure starting out remotely.

BUT I want to be clear, I LOVE my new job and I'm absolutely JAZZED about starting and the content I'm creating, but I just really, really hate quarantine, as I'm sure most sane people can agree upon. In other news, I made this dress...
I woke up yesterday REALLY wanting a babydoll dress. Well I have been thinking about them for ages, but I literally filled a SheIn cart with 30 puffy sleeved empire waste dresses and then obviously closed the tab because WE DON'T SUPPORT FAST FASHION!! So I decided to challenge myself and make one instead. I didn't totally get the empire cut right, but I do think this dress is super fun and I'm SO proud of myself for trying something new, and not using any kind of pattern either?? The talent, wow.
Anyway, this photo pretty much sums up how I'm feeling since last week, vibes dude.
Until next time, O

WEAR WHAT YOU LOVE

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
Today is my FAVORITE holiday of the year! I suppose minus Christmas, just because, dang, I can't be putting candy hearts above family time, something about that feels a little wrong... BUT minus Christmas, Valentine's Day it is by far my favorite. It really has been since I was a kid, I mean come on, what beats crafty shoeboxes filled with candy coated love letters from Jake from homeroom? He only sits one desk away but it feels like you're a world apart when he starts taking interest in Jenny Pulaski more when he finds out that full sized bars were more than just a day-after-Halloween thing in the lunchbox, but ALSO a Valentine's Day thing... Love can be tough, but it's moments like these learnt in our most formative years where we must accept the worlds one golden truth: Jake from homeroom will never be worth the value of a heart shaped gummy krabby patty.

That being said, considering how much of a high ticket item a heart shaped gummy krabby patty is, Valentine's Day must be worshiped, in hopes to once a year be graced with such delicacies.

What am I even getting at here? Yeah basically I love Valentine's Day. Here's one of my outfits!
As you all know, I try to shop mainly secondhand, or sustainably and ethically made. You probably also have noticed two things in these photos many times before. These shoes and this shirt.

I've had this shirt since I was a freshman in college and the shoes since before then! Both are from fast fashion companies. Purchased in a previous life when I was young, unaware, naive, foolish even. But let's be real, I LOVE THESE PIECES! They are some of my FAVORITES in my entire closet!
So why not wear the heck out of them! Sure I'm a blogger, I'm supposed to have all these new, trendy, fashionable things to show you, when in reality I rewear a LOT of the same things, why? Because I LOVE THEM!

And I LOVE being sustainable even more, getting my use out of something I already have, especially if it came from a fast fashion manufacturer is super important. We must be conscious about every purchase, and do our best to make the things we buy last! So wear them until  you can't anymore!
This Valentine's Day, besides showing your S.O. love, give love to some older pieces, forget going out to stores to buy a brand new VDay look, my guess is you've already got the perfect ensemble in your closet just waiting to be loved! I have faith in you!

Happy Valentine's Day lovebugs!
XOXOXOXO, O

Making 2020 POP!

Wednesday, January 15, 2020

HEY! Trying to figure out how to start this post, what to write, what to say... I know I want to mention something along the lines of, "hey, hey its 2020 let's kick it off with a pop, bang, boom!" Ya know something like that... Something about how I'm back at school, it's week two, things are already off to a good start, busy, but good.

I've got a LOT going on this quarter and a lot planned, for starters, classwork is insane, I have plenty of projects due, practically two in every class each week. In addition to that I want to grow my portfolio so I'm aiming to do a new photoshoot / creative project every week for that. I took some photos this past weekend that I'm very proud of, looking forward to sharing it with y'all!

Anyway, this post is short and sweet, but I basically just wanted to say hey, I've got a lot going on this month and I'm very excited to kick it off with a bang! Here's to us!
That's all for now... short and sweet as always xo, O

MAKE IT SPARKLE

Monday, December 16, 2019

Only 8 days until Christmas... yeah. Wait, what? Who knows, not me. I totally thought that over break I was going to have all the time in the world to get back on my blog game, actually finish the book I'm reading, do some sketching, totally clean out and reorganize my room, and you know, just get my life together all while ~*relaxing*~ but what ended up happening? I got a job, I film a new video basically everyday that brings far more stress to me than I had imagined, I have to help around the house, I'm hardly sleeping. How much of my book have a read? Practically none. How much of my room have I organized, oh, absolutely none. So Christmas is basically tomorrow and I still have zero gifts, waiting on that first paycheck, wahoowa, and have done nothing festive.

So here we are, it's New Years and I'm bringing you my first holiday look post. I wanted to do this a whole lot better, but life just got in the way. Curse you, life... Anyway, as always, I'm freaking obsessed with this dress, it's the light of my life, if I could wear one dress for the rest of my life and then promptly die in it it'd be this one yadda yadda yadda...
Saunders and I went to Quirk yesterday to take these photos and I simply got off of work too late and spent too long getting ready that we had lost all the natural light coming through the windows and had to make do with the weird lighting of the Quirk Hotel at a just barely 4:50pm sunset. I obviously wanted to shoot here because it's always been SO festive in the past (1, 2, 3) but for some reason this year there just weren't as many decorations. And on top of that we eventually got kindly kicked out unless we wanted to pay a photoshoot fee... that's new. But nonetheless we got what we needed, you've seen the dress, my new haircut has surfaced the face of the blog, and we've gotten at least ONE holiday shoot under our belts, so I'm as satisfied as I can be. I'll be back... I promise... but for now, SLEEP. xo, O

MAKE IT SIMPLE

Saturday, December 7, 2019

Hey! How long has it been? Eighteen years? Something like that, yeah. So I realize this is kind of my thing, leaving my blog for a while and then coming back with some ~*deep*~ post about being in a transitional time in my life, full of stress, work, and me just being busy, busy, BUSY! I don't want to come on here now, after all this time and rant to you, again like I always do. I mean... It's not not true, I am very busy and stressed, but I just want to welcome myself back in.
Well... Welcome myself back in with the full knowledge for you all that I most likely won't be sticking around. You see, back when I was in high school blogging was a lot easier, I had motivation to succeed in a world where the expectations for me to succeed professionally were much lower than they are now. So I feel like I must always have high, high quality content and something very insightful to say, otherwise what's the point? Do you remember my Four Word Thursday segment I used to do? It was when I literally had NOTHING to say and would just say four words and that was somehow enough. What? Can't relate. This was a legitimate blogpost I was proud of, what!? A much simpler time clearly.
Why can't now be a just as simple? In a world where everyone craves to be famous, wants to go viral overnight and just has to have it alllll, why can't we just all share our content without expectations of being the best. I still do full on photoshoots, I still have rich, valuable things to say just as much as I have random tidbits and little happenings I want to share. Life doesn't always have to be a reach for success, it can just be life. I talk so much about trying to be my best and do more, more, more, but why don't we recognize those moments when all we really can bare to do is put in the absolute least amount of effort and have that be rewarded too? All I'm saying is, I want to be more casual, WAY more casual around here, and on Instagram and YouTube too. Not making any commitment to posting or giving you any false promises, simply stating that I hope to see you around here more often, and expect minimal effort, expect real life, and real problems, and real tiny victories because that's life. So here's to that? Cheers.

BACK TO SCHOOL INTENTIONS

Wednesday, August 28, 2019

All clothes from Tori Radday's Depop

How?! HOW is it that TOMORROW I drive down to Savannah to begin my senior year?! In one bound to fly by week, I will be waking up early to embark on my LAST first day of school, like, ever. That is if I don't completely fail out of SCAD at the last possible moment, yikes, that would be bad. Let's not put that out into the universe, okay? Okay.

OKAY! so, senior year.
Holy crapola. Even though I still have a week or so before classes actually start, I thought it would be good to set some back to school intentions to start the year off with the right foot forward, no not the left foot, the right one, of course... Let's begin!
1. IT'S OKAY TO SAY NO after my freshman year I told myself to say, "yes" to everything. The result of that? Making lots of new friends, connections, and having cool and different experiences, the real outcome? Total burnout. I even made a video about it. Do I agree with that now? No.

I genuinely need to learn how to say, "no" to people. More often than not I find myself spreading myself MUCH too thin for the sake of others. I already know I am going to be busy, I need to... (transition)

2. PUT MYSELF FIRST going off of my last intention, I need to put myself first, seriously! My grades, health, both mental and physical, happiness come FIRST this year! I need to quit pulling so many all nighters, I need to begin taking steps back when self care is necessary. Speaking of, it's currently 3am and my eyelids feel like they have weights on them, SLEEP!
3. GROWTH IS NOT LINEAR I am prepared for this year to be full of ups and downs. I know I am aiming towards to goal of graduation in the spring and job in the summer to kick off my future career. But I need to remind myself that the path towards that will not be a straight new paved road, but perhaps a rocky passageway through a shaded wood, something more mysterious and dangerous, what's life without a little bit of danger, right? It may take a lot to get to where I'm going but I know that I will eventually wind up where I am meant to be.

4. APPLY YOURSELF And with that, I want to do everything I can to achieve my goals. I want to really push myself forward to creating the best work I can this year, being my best self, and making sure I am doing all that I can to get to where I want to be. With out pushing myself too hard of course...
Okay, now I really need to get packing. Let's get this thing going! Here's to new opportunities, new experiences, adventures, joys, highs and lows, and GROWTH! I could not be more excited for this journey to begin. I want to enjoy every last minute, and I want you to enjoy it with me every step of the way! Here we go! xo, O

AM I A FASHION BLOGGER?

Tuesday, August 27, 2019

all clothes available via Tori Radday's Depop
follow Tori on Instagram!

Hello!
I'm writing this to you from my unmade bed in my unkempt, half packed room wearing two, (two?) ((yes, two)) bathrobes, trying to think of some type of useful information to share with you all at 12:39 am that is worth your time...

That's the thing with blogging I've realized lately, I am constantly torn between the age old quality over quantity argument. You see, part of me has been lead to believe that it's quantity that is better for a blog, it boosts engagement, it increases my views and clickthroughs, especially if I'm consistent with the quantity of my posting, posting on a regular schedule and what not.

But then the other part of me thinks that quality is much more valuable. I want people to see me as more than, "hey guys, I've really been loving this new sweater lately! Here's the link to buy it, use my 20% off code in checkout! Bye!" partially because that gets old pretty quickly, but mainly because I am so much more than that.
There are so many sides of me, of course blogging, fashion blogging in particular, is deep in there at the core of things, but my roots are infinite and I stretch and grow much further than my core. There are stormy parts, sunny parts, hurricanes, rainbows, all the weather patterns you can tie to an analogy, I've got it.

I don't post much on here anymore, I'm not going to deny that. Does that mean that I can no longer take the title of "fashion blogger?" If you sell paintings for a living, and then don't sell one for three years, are you still a painter? I think so, right?
My point is, I'm growing, changing, trying to figure out just exactly what it is I want to do in this world. I graduate this (school) year. My future is a head of me. Will I be a stylist? Creative director? Influencer? Content Creator? Social Media Manager? Popstar?! That last one is sort of far off, but you NEVER KNOW!

I am starting to question my place as a blogger in this world where there are so many larger problems at hand. Our president is insane, the Amazon is on Fire, women STILL aren't being payed equally to men, people are dying EVERYDAY from shootings, racism is alive and thriving fueled by hate. The world is a mess, how can I sit over here and simply discuss discounts and designer?
I try to use my platform and voice in a positive way, but it can be defeating when there is little to no change in the numbers, in fact, LESS people than ever are reading my blog, looking at my Instagram, and watching my YouTube videos... way less. It's discouraging, ESPECIALLY when I have opinions, thoughts on change, ways to help, move, plan, and create!

What's the use in trying to show the other sides of me and trying to make change or an impact when I feel so small? Every time I post on here I post with intention to do it again and again and again, today, tomorrow, the next day, and the next and the next. But I get distracted, I want to post about fashion, but I feel selfish and self-righteous when posting about handbags and headbands when there are people dying in the world. What do you think?

xo, O

Don't get me wrong, I read lots of fashion blogs and do have LOTs of respect for fashion bloggers, this is just my personal opinion about myself.
