I turned twenty-six on the twenty-eighth and decided twenty twenty-four is going to be the year of adventure, the year of inspiration and gaining experience.

Naturally, with each birthday comes reflection. In the back of my mind I'm often replaying lessons I've learned, and how I've grown from those, and I've realized that I don’t think I have anything that I've genuinely worked hard to succeed and grow towards. I'll admit I find myself quitting the majority of the time. I'm quick to break up, leave the room, walking away from the task at hand, how can you expect me to not ghost a boring third date if I couldn't be bothered to keep working at that gift supply store for longer than three days? I quit Panera after six days. Don't even get me started on my punch needle hobby! I don't want to doubt myself, but it feels like I haven't mastered any skills or leveled up in an activity before. for the first time, I'm thinking about longevity; I'm itching to look back and feel proud.

I'm watching The Bear season 2 right now. Though it's not without its setbacks at points, each character is developing, finding inspiration-  attending culinary school for the first time, new relationships, traveling to learn, experience, and grow?! GROW GROW GROW!? I don't know how this will manifest yet, but I'm seeking inspiration to learn something new this year. I liked this quote/moment from episode 4-

"Most of the incredible things I've eaten haven't been because the skill level is exceptionally high or theres loads of mad fancy techniques, it's because it's been really inspired. You can spend all the time in the world in here, but if you don’t spend enough time out there...?' 'Right.' 'Helps to have good people around you too."

Every year, for my birthday, I honor it with a photo shoot (or at least I have for the last twelve years) to celebrate who I was then and what I looked like at 16. Who was I at 18, and who was I pretending to be at 20? Helps me remember, I can feel it, each outfit takes me back, want to know one fashion memory?

I swear I can remember what my third-ever crush, Wyatt, wore at the ice cream social before the start of second grade. Do you think he remembers what I was wearing? My blue Birkenstocks with the poorly drawn pig across both feet. I took my shoes off while he showed me the new zip line on the playground they installed over the summer. I was a new student that year, and the 'social' of 'ice cream social's" prerogative was to get the new kids fostering relationships before the school year started so the transition would be easier. Ice cream is the perfect tool to bond, ask any welder.

I took my pig off, summer feet, you know. We played as Wyatt's mint chip melted and my rainbow sprinkles sat in the bottom of my half eaten cone, I just liked them because they were pretty, the way they seemingly superglue themselves to the bottom of my teeth freaks me out so I avoid ingesting. Wyatt was pretty too, with thick blonde, weirdly wirey hair. Maybe I imagine him larger than life, but I swear his hair was a balloon the width of his wingspan. mind you, he was short for our class- our second grade, so he must have been barely four feet?

That summer night faded to dark quickly, and that's the only way to know it's gotten late when you’re in second grade. I heard the "it's time to go" call from my dad and I scurried along, not before slamming my dogs into those Berks. And that's when I felt it, its curious half dead goopy antennas investigating the playground under my toenails,,, I screeEEEEEECHED!!! An inside a grasshopper wound up being the cherry on top of my ice cream sundae that night, I would have preferred maraschino, I'm not picky.

What I'm getting at here is that clothing holds memories. Rarely do I think of Wyatt's airhead or cricket guts, and though I did just host my very own ice cream social and can't say it wasn't part of the inspiration, I always think of that dang pig. Always! Not too long ago, I saw someone wearing them in Tribeca; something resurrected inside me. I must find those clogs in my size!!!!!! I must challenge myself to style them as a twenty-six-year-old second grader.

And see that is what I'm good at, like that Bear quote, that is my skill, connecting memories and turning my insides out so you can see my cricket guts through my clothes, how I dress is a direct representation of how I feel. Every time I put together an outfit I'm creating something fun. It's a moment, a real moment, a real joy, a passion, surrounding myself with color, my room is a stylish setting, it's a place to create, to explore, to dream, to be inspired, to take all the inspiration I've collected out in the world and combine it with my inner musings and watch art bloom. I refuse to sell myself short!

That's why I awarded myself this "General Excellence" trophy I found in the trash area with the little ratties outside the Laundromat on the corner of Willoughby and Wilson one warm night last year, I needed it. I earned it. Creativity is a skill, a passion, and a calling. I love it, but how can I grow with that? I'm ready to find some new skills. And what a gift it is to have a lifetime to explore it all. I cannot believe I have yet to discover what I'll learn next. To feel proud!! Won't it be nice to see how far I've come?

I'll keep you posted; until then, here are more of these incredible photos by Kara Birnbaum!

Hello!! This past week I celebrated my 23rd birthday! That's right, TWENTY THREEEE! How crazy is that? Shoutout to those of you who have been here since I started this blog when I was 13, what a time its been yeeeeesh. Just wanted to share a quick little journal entry style post about my day!
My birthday was the 28th, that morning I woke up to SNOW! while it didnt last long, it was SUCH a treat! Snow is my absolute favorite weather, so I knew that without a doubt, the day would be great :-) I WAS RIGHT!
We had cinnamon rolls and strawberry bread for breakfast! The whole kitchen was decorated all pink which you can sorta see in the top picture!
For lunch, Ally, Isabelle and I went to Ally's house for some pizza. Don't forget that Ally and I share a birthday! Destined to be best friends since birth!! We are only thirty two minutes apart, how cool is that?! We did a gift exchange there :-)
A few weeks ago Isabelle threw us a birthday picnic! She made us both gift baskets with all of our favorite things! It was so much fun! I wish it weren't COVID, then we could hang out with everyone, but as far as COVID birthday's go, I'd say mine was preeeettttttyyyy great! 10s across the board
For dinner we made this AMAZING pasta oh my gosh it was SO good! So many flavors and surprisingly easy to make! TOTALLY try this out!
Dinner was ALSO decorated to the nines in all pink! My mom always does such an amazing job with birthdays, she is the queen of decorations and party planning.
and OMG! For dessert Saunders surprised me with a Milk Bar cake!! I couldn't believe it! I've wanted to try one of these forEVER! it was such a fun surprise, I want the leftovers to last forever, they’re so delicious!
And lastly, I now own more Squishmallows than any human needs, but thank you to everyone who contributed :-)

Hope you liked this hella casual post! I had a wonderful birthday, thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday I appreciate it more than you know!! Cheers to 23! xo, O

23 Things I Learned in my 23rd Year

Thursday, January 28, 2021

Hello!! Hope you are all having a WONDERFUL day! I know I am, because today is my BIRTHDAY!! I cannot believe it's already that time of the year again, I don’t even know HOW it's possible that i'm already 23, and yet somehow the last year feels SO FAR AWAY! This past wild year was full of twists and turns, but I've learned so SO much! SO I wanted to share with you, 23 of those things, 23 things I've learned in my 23rd year!
1. Recognize The Power Of Patience
Not only with myself, but also with others, being patient is the best thing you can do. We have to stop sweating the small stuff! As we know 2020 taught us to expect the unexpected. I've learned how to be patient with my current place in life. From things like a backed up coffee shop rush all the way to when im going to move out to a whole new city all on my own, we have to know that it's okay to be patient and take things one step at a time.

2. Listen To Burnout, Don't Push Yourself
Sometimes it can be hard to even recognize burnout, but it is crucial to take care of yourself and take time for yourself, which is there is a theme for this past year of my life it is for sure that. Which I think is something that i've been learning since being in college, stress was a huge part of my daily routine, but we have to remember that taking breaks and listening to our minds and bodies is sooooo essential for our wellbeing.

3. Lean Into Alone Time, It's Okay To Be Alone
As we all know, I'm such an extrovert, so being in lockdown for the past year totally taught me how to fight that. Taught me how to appreciate my time, and know that my own company isnt that bad! It's okay to be with myself. It can be so restorative and healing.

4. Check In With All Of Your Friends
Always ask how they are doing!! I learned the true meaning of friendship in this past year. The power of friendship is STRONG! It is important to put yourself out there as a trusting and loving friend. You never know what someone else is going through, especially your happy, bubbly friends. It's so important to treat others like you want to be treated. You never know when something may be up with a friend, and often times if they are going through something it can be hard to speak up and ask for help, so always let them know you’re there and check in every now and then!
5. Don't Take Sunshine For Granted
2020 for SURE taught me how to not take the little things for granted. Sunshine being a HUGE one! Being in the presence of nature, in the fresh air and having the sun on your skin genuinely feels so restorative. It is such a stress reliever to go on a walk and get outdoors. Not to sound cheesy or weird, but I kinda feel like I'm one with the sun.

6. Self-Forgiveness Is Your Superpower
It's so easy to get on yourself and feel guilty for the little things. For me, sleeping in or messing up or missing something on my todo list. When in reality that negative energy is so useless. It's heavy and honestly weighing me down!! We have to be forgiving to ourselves, how else will we grow and evolve! No more anxious, pent up guilt over the little things! There isn't enough time in the world for that!

7. Sleep Is Not Overrated
Somehow, even at 23 I am still learning this. Though my sleep schedule still isn't great I will say, IT MATTERS! When I get enough sleep I genuinely feel so much more productive during the day, my body feels energized and healthy! That is when you recharge, and your insides do all the self care haha

8. Live Each Day Like It Could Be The Best Day Of Your Life
This has got to be my new favorite quote, because this is SOOOO TRUE! You never know when something amazing is going to happen, stating your day with this mindset allows you to start your day on such a positive mindset that you should start everyday with!
9. Time Enjoyed Wasting Is Not Time Wasted
Similarly to the self forgiveness one, I'm learning that there is no such thing as a waste of time. Since time is so valuable, if you make conscious decisions to "waste your time" then it was never a waste of time in the first place! What ever you did was something you enjoyed doing! You should continue doing the things that bring you joy

10. Small Habits Help Your Headspace
I'm a huge proponent of making my bed every morning and writing the same simple tasks on my todo list everyday. Getting into a routine with anything just makes me feel more organized, way less cluttered and like I have at least something together. I feel more structured in general, big fan of tiny healthy, happy habits.

11. Self Reflection Is So Healthy!
I've found that I often give myself the best advice. Sometimes when I journal or even podcast I say things that then in the future, I still get down on. Does that make sense? I need to go back to my old podcasts and old journal entries to reflect and hear my own advice. You'd be surprised by how much you learn from yourself!

12. Make Friends Everywhere You Go
Whether it's the local coffee shop or a boutique, I love making friends everywhere I go. I find that having genuine conversation, really getting to know the people who even though they see hundreds of people a day, rarely do people make THEM feel like friends, really goes a long way. Maybe it's a karma thing? I aim to spread positivity everywhere I go, that shouldn't stop with someone even if the interaction is only 45 seconds long. I aim to make lasting connections, foster strong relationships with everyone! It makes coming a regular somewhere way more fun ;-)

13. Dance Parties Are Essential
ESSENTIAL!! No matter what you're doing right now, well i'm assuming you're reading this. Take this moment to pause, turn on your favorite song and get up and DANCE! Especially when im feeling down, anxious or upset, dancing is one of my favorite ways to turn things around. It's like you're literally physically shaking off all your problems. PLS try it!
14. Every Bad Day Can Be Turned Into A Good One (most of them)
Sometimes we go through really hard days, I don't want to discount that. But I will say, this past year I worked on trying to not let minor inconveniences get to me. I tried to stay level headed and focus on the good. Each day is full of millions of opportunities. Maybe the way to turn things around is with a dance party....?? Being more intentional and learning how to change my mindset has been one of my true superpowers this past year. I look forward to learning more on how I can continue to boost my mood and change things around when im feeling down just with the power of positive thinking

15. The Time Always Has Been And Always Will Be Now
Obviously COVID permitting... our time is so valuable, we need to start taking it into our own hands! I always wanted to start a podcast so this year I said what the heck, let's do it! I always wanted to take blogging/youtube full time so I said WHAT THE HECK! LET'S DO IT!! Your passions and dreams shouldn't have to wait just because of self doubt! You've got this!

16. You ALWAYS Have A Support System, People Who Love You + Are Inspire By You
And even if it feels like you don't, know that I've got you. Honestly!! If you are ever going through something and feel like you have no one to talk to, I'm there for you!! DM me on instagram! I'm serious! This is a judgment free zone, I am always here for you! But really, please know that youve made a good impression on people! You inspire people! Sometimes it may feel like the world is against you, but I can assure you it is not!

17. Stop Assuming The Worst About People, Release Judgment
Because you never know someone elses story. It's important to always assume the best. Assume that, like you, everyone is trying their best in this tough wild world. Be more open minded! As a society. we like to assume the worst im people, release stereotypes. It's time we unlearn things we thought we knew before! It's so important to get to know people, and of course, treat people with kindness !!

18. You Are Beautiful The Day You Start Saying It
Obviously, we all know you are a stunning human being, but it really takes you saying it for you to believe it!! You have to hold yourself in a way that feels confident, constantly telling yourself that you are beautiful and wonderful, then you WILL start to feel beautiful and wonderful!! Speak it and it will be true!
19. Life Is More Fun When You Refuse To "Grow Up"
Granted we will all have to do "grown up" things some day, BUT living life with the same childlike sense of wonder that you had when you were a kid is where the magic happens. Life is more fun with a cherry on top. Life is more fun when you laugh often and always try to look on the bright side! Never let your inner child grow up, they’re there to help you navigate through all the tough adulting. You've got this.

20. Never Stop Learning And Trying New Things
No matter what path you decide to take, that should never be your entire world. Your life should be constantly filled with new passions and adventures. You never know until you try, whether it's a new food or a new language! Like I said, the time is NOW! Follow those dreams!

21. Let Go Of Old Pain And Then You Will Finally Begin To Heal
I turned 22 with a lot of old pain in my heart, full of grief and confusion wondering where did I go wrong, how could I have done better, lingering on past relationships and lost opportunities, but honestly i've found that the moment I was able to let go of that old pain was when I was able to start moving on and actually growing! It's much easier said than done, but growth is a long process, let go and feel the weight lifted off of your shoulders!

22. Physically Document Casually
Whether it's collecting an old candy wrapper or taking film photos. Living in a digital world it can be easy to feel like we are collecting memories when in reality they just sit in our phones forever unseen again! I started documenting a lot more this past year and I've loved it. I love having photo albums, those will last a lifetime! Whether its my journal or a keepsakes box, make time for the casual memories from good times!

23. Flood Your Space With Positive Affirmations
Lastly, something that I talk about all the time is the power of positive affirmations. I know it seems cheesy, but honestly, put sticky notes EVERYWHERE! No matter what you want to say, remind yourself how beautiful you are, how strong you are, how clever you are, how cool you are, whatever it is! Put them in your closet, around your mirror, on your bedside table, everywhere! It's so essential to remember that the best kind of love is self love, and a little note goes a long way :-)

And that's it!! This past year has been all over the place, but I really did learn a lot! And I hope you learned something today too :-)
I love you so so much! Have a wonderful day, go eat some cake!!! Xo, O

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!
Okay, so my birthday was Monday, BUT I'm still celebrating!
I actually have been celebrating all week with friends leading up to tomorrow night when I'm throwing my birthday party! It's dancing queen themed and I could not be more excited! We are going to have a disco ball and bell bottoms and EVERYTHING! Cannot wait!

But wow, 21?! How did this happen. I have never been a huge drinker, and technically that's the main milestone when you turn 21, but honestly I've just been equating it to being a real full time adult. Like a why is your room still so messy, stop going to bed at 4am kind of adult! Love that for me. Love the stress that is yet to come with all things adulting!

I am going to post all about my Birthday Chronicles probably tomorrrrrowww... Today I just wanted to share with you 21 things that I am excited about for my year of 21!
champagne pop, girl popping champagne with confetti, confetti, party girl, fashion party,
1. Continuing my self love journey- Because you can never love yourself too much

2. Writing more- Not just journaling, but poems and stories, I used to write all the time and I want to get back into it! I'm at a place in my life where I know I'll want to look back on!

3. Traveling- 20 was a big travel year too with Hong Kong and all, but this year I'm going to Europe for the first time ever and am BEYOND excited to explore over there

4. Moving to France- but specifically, moving to France when I study abroad again this spring. Lacoste, France to be specific!

5. Living with my best friends- I'm already doing this now, yes, but I'm loving every second of it and am excited for it to continue all year long!

6. Dating- Because I'm single for the first time since early high school and it's FUN just meeting new people and seeing where it goes!

7. Getting an internship for sure. For sure.
8. Going to fancy bars and drinking colorful cocktails- I may not be a heavy drinker, the photo above shows that pretty well... But I am a sucker for an aesthetically pleasing cocktail

9. Growing a healthily on social media- I REALLY want to boost my growth this year, but in a non-back breaking, organic way

10. Celebrating all the little things- There is nothing better than getting excited over something seemingly small. So many things in life are worth celebrating!

11. Singing at the top of my lungs- Because what's better than a windows down, music up kind of ride?

12. Making conscious decisions- I am a very go with the flow kind of person, or at least I'm telling myself I am, but I would like to do things more with intentions and be more aware of what it is I am doing.

13. Being a supportive, loving friend- My friends have always been so good to me, and I want to always be there for them no matter what as well. Not that I haven't in the past, it's just something I want to continue to do

14. Biking at sunrise- Because why not?
15. Working on learning a new language- Well technically I took french for 9 years, but I know NOTHING! However I'm working on it so when I do move to France, I'm not going in completely clueless

16. Enjoying valuable family time- Now that we are all getting older this is rare! I want to enjoy every chance I can get

17. Moving into our new house- My parents are FINALLY done with their house renovations and are ready to move in, when I'm home, I'm VERY excited to be living there!

18. Growing my hair out- My impulsive side says otherwise, but we'll see how far I can go

19. Dancing until my feet fall off- Again, because why not?

20. Falling in love over and over and over- With myself, with my world, with my friends, with boys, with everything, because love is the best thing anyone can experience. I'm filling 21 with LOVE!

21. Celebrating ME every chance I get! Because I'm vain and that's okay, I recognize my worth and I want to celebrate that! Three cheers to me!
And that's all folks! I'm SO excited for this year, so many wonderful things await me! Here's to it! Xo, O
