Hi, I'm Olivia

Hi, I’m Olivia, and I’m a size 4, comfortably a size 6. Growing up I was always this super duper skinny lanky kid, I was always the tiniest. When I was in fourth grade we were having what I guess what you could call an “in school physical” a doctor came in and took our weight, height, blood pressure, and all that jazz. I was waiting in line with my best friend at the time, Caroline. She too was somewhat of a stick bug. We were messing around and goofing off, she went before me and was marked down for 48 pounds. To my knowledge, the last time I checked, which wasn’t often, and if I ever did check it was just for my curiosity, I was around 45 pounds. The woman told me I was 4’11 and 50 pounds. She announced it loud enough for the entire line to hear. I was 50 pounds. This was the first time in my entire life I was horrified about the reality of my weight, and extremely self-conscious of my body. I broke 50 pounds! That’s almost 60 which is basically 70 which means I was just shy of 100 pounds! Now of course, as I’m recalling this memory, 50 pounds is literally NOTHING but just go with it, this is fourth grade me talking… I was absolutely mortified.
I’ve grown up with an incredibly stunning sister and a mom who practically used to be a super model, her sister was a model as well, and so was my dads sister, it wouldn’t be far fetched to say that there is definitely a standard of beauty in my family that comes with a pressure to uphold it. When I learned that day that I was 50 pounds I felt like I let everyone down. I was no longer this little waif, fairy, pixie creature that was cute and beautiful, I was 50 pounds. Days went by, months went by, and years went by where I accepted that my sister Emma was the beautiful, intelligent one, Saunders, my brother, was the talented, not only athlete but also artist and a genius, and I was just Olivia. I didn’t really have a lot to offer.
But then freshman year rolled around and I was sitting in school with my best friend Ally, while she showed me all these incredible blogs she followed. I was so completely fixed on how cool the idea of sharing your life and passions through the platform of media was. So I created my own blog. I wasn’t really sure what I would blog about at first, so I used our family trip to San Francisco as a launching point, thinking I’d be a travel blogger, when really I don’t get out much at all. I thought about being an advice blog, giving people the Do’s and Don’ts of life, high school, love and what not, but I was 14, had yet to really experience high school, love was a great big question mark, and to me, livin’ was sitting in my bed in the dark eating lucky charms while my mom thought I was asleep, so giving genuine advice was off the table. I was awful at beauty, and couldn’t afford nice enough make up for the life of me, so showing people how to master the impossible art of contouring and false eyelashes was also a no. But the one thing I did somewhat have an eye for (or so I like to believe) is fashion. I loved being in front of the camera and yapping on and on and on about clothes, so this was the PERFECT outlet for me to express myself.
Fashion blogging turned to be a beautiful toxic thing. Of course I followed other fashion blogs, which made it hard to accept the reality that there were so many better bloggers out there, girls who were skinnier, prettier, richer, better with words, more eloquent, had better photographers, made me feel like I wasn’t good enough. I tried to tell myself the numbers don’t matter, bloggers I followed would get hundreds of comments, their instagram posts would rack up thousands of likes and millions of followers, the dresses they wore were only sold in zeros and twos, they got money for every post, and a lot of it. I got zero comments, a few likes, only followers who were my friends or family, shopped at Forever 21 and thrift stores wearing sizes people are for some reason embarrassed to share, and never got any money. Once again, I was on the 50 pound end of the stick. Feeling like I’ve disappointed people. I took a bit of a hiatus from blogging for a while and just got trapped in an even darker hole; I no longer had an outlet where I could express myself and my interests. And then it hit me. I don’t blog to show off expensive clothes, or nonexistent modeling skills, I blog because I love myself.

I love being in front of the camera, showing off my body that is healthy and happy and full of life. I love talking about myself and my passions. Then the idea of natural beauty comes up. Talking about yourself so much sounds so vain and crude, wearing so much makeup and sharing about everything you do feels unreal and not genuine. But heres my two cents for you, Find what makes you special, be selfish and do things for yourself, try to forget the haters and dig as deeeeeep as you can to find what makes you YOU and not the person others want you to be, be who you were born to be. Natural beauty is something they try to advertise and sell in magazines, but it can't be bought, you need to find it yourself. And you WILL, there WILL come a time where you will be powerful and rule your own world, and love every moment of it. Once you love yourself, and find what makes you beautiful (in your OWN eyes) it’s that much easier to love those in the world around you. Sometimes you’ll hear guys be like, “Ohh I’m gunna take her swimming or to the river on the first date so I can see her with no makeup and like raw, natural beauty, yeah man” But I’m sorry no, this makeup, this hard work and talent that is on my face right here took time, and I feel beautiful with it on. There is no way I am ever going to let some guy make me feel any less. If you feel beautiful shaving off all your hair and tattooing stars on your head because it makes you feel like a shooting star in your heart, do it. If you want to do full on mime makeup because you think it expresses your inner feelings and makes you feel like a queen, girl do it! Do what ever makes you happy and confident and feel like your wholesome self, and don’t ever let someone with more followers, more money, or whatever, get you down. Because you are incredibly beautiful no matter if you’re 50 pounds or just shy of 300, learn to love yourself because that is the most important knowledge you will ever gain.

Swimming Pools

It's swimming pool season. Summer is (almost) finally here, and we are showing more and more skin everyday. As a confident, sort of saucy gal it's my favorite time of year; time to shed my layers and show all my skin and show off my bod. However, one of my BIGGEST issues with media and just modern societies way of thinking today is that women are told not to love their bodies. We are told to shrink ourselves, eat less, work harder, stay fit, stay clean, stay available, and somehow stay happy. When women's bodies aren't being objectified or degraded they are often being compared to other women's bodies, making every other woman think they aren't good enough. NO woman needs to feel like she is ANY less than a women because she isn't a size zero, or she is flat chested. Side note, let's keep in mind that saying someone is "sooooo skinny" can also hurt, one's person goal could be someone's insecurity, don't judge people by something they might not be able to control. I just wish people could see that the way you look in a bathing suit by no means defines who you are as a person. "Shaping up for bikini season" shouldn't be a thing. But really, I love summer time and getting the chance to actually see my legs after they've been in winter hiding for so long. It gives me the chance to just remember how rockin' my body is and how lucky I am to simply have a working, healthy, lovely body. I urge you to remember the same. So with that, I've made some steps for myself on how to stay body positive this summer. Here they are, maybe you'll find them helpful as well :)
Try to stay generally positive about everything in life. Make the littlest things the best things, then you'll have less to be upset about. Most the time, when you're unhappy, one thing leads to another, it's easy to turn to hating your appearance. An easy way to skip melt downs and break downs is to just make the best of everything, avoiding upset at all costs.
Find other activities that are better for you and more worth your time. Things that don't involve worrying about what you look like.
Honestly, just work it. Know your body and flaunt every curve and crevice there is. Walk with your head up high and with power in your step and you'll feel flawless, I swear. Plus, you'll get heads turning, and people will see just how fabulous you are.
Don't feel like you need to hide anything; rolls, stretch marks, cellulite, freckles, scars, birth marks, ANYTHING on you're body someone might otherwise convince you to be self conscious about, DON'T BE. Vow not to hide, or edit out any part of your body because of what someone else might think. It's what makes you 100% you! And ALL of you is beautiful :)

I hope at least some of this was a bit motivational, maybe a little rambly, but at least a tiny bit empowering, or something... I love you all so so much. Go buy a bathing suit you KNOW you FEEL AMAZING IN and knock everyone off of their plastic pool chairs, just by showing them how great it is to be a strong, powerful, beautiful woman!! YGG!!

And finally... here is my current mood, as exams have just started:

KILLER CONFIDENCE! / How I Found It

So I know what you may be thinking... Oh... another one of these posts... gaaahsh bloggers and magazines are always trying to just sell confidence like it's just that easy... Hey, reality check, it can be. And today, I'm gonna tell you how :)
Be Yourself, Beautifully...
For me, a very fashion forward person, I have realized that I feel best when dressed up, riggghhhttt... it sounds kinda silly, but it's true.. I am most confident when dressed well and feeling beautiful. And knowing that I am beautiful. At times I'll look in the mirror and just sigh at the fact that, "Ugh, My arms are too big... Oh my Gosh! Those Thighs!" give yourself a break already! As many times that you have heard that 'Each and everyone of you is a beautiful and stunning individual in simply who you are, not how you look or how much you weigh..." But hey, that's just that, it's so true. No, I am not at all saying, throw away the makeup and nice things and just be your natural self, because I love makeup and clothing that makes me not only look pretty, but feel extra pretty. It sounds a bit backwards, but when dressed well I move comfortably, and act accordingly, It is as if the clothing is just another layer of my skin that I am at home in. When I was younger I was bullied about how I dressed, things were mix matched and nothing coordinated. To the girls around me I was like a foreign object just trying to fit in and make things work. However, each and everyday I would arrive at school, or where ever I was going with my head held high knowing; "This is what I want to wear, this is how I want to look, and no one and their hurtful words can stop me from feeling fabulous in how I look in these stellar sequin tank tops and jeggings with camo shorts on top.. Because I look fantastic." And with that I am comfortable to be my self, be wild, silly, powerful... Beautifully. Because I feel beautiful. I have confidence in my appearance. I am beautiful.
Play It Up A Little, Experiment
One of the things that I love about finding confidence is that it doesn't just happen in a good nights sleep. Over time, we are free to explore and decide how we feel best, experiment and discover what makes you walk with a beat in your head and passion in your heart. There are different types of confidence, most of the time it isn't actually just being able to go up to say a large group of people and share your life story along with the new interpretive dance to "Don't Stop Believing" you've been working on. It is knowing that you are secure and you are comfortable. Mentally happy with yourself and the surroundings that you inhabit yourself in. This may sound a little odd and weirdddddd... but I like to play characters, act around, maybe even throw in a musical number here and there ;) But in my journey of self discovery to happiness and confidence, which I am still fully on by the way... I learned that I like to mix things up, and keep people on their toes at all times. I love trying attitudes, mindsets and ways of living like they're just another dress at our local Forever 21, you never know the perfect one until you try it. Of course, always staying healthy, well and good in your experiments, you need to try new things before you are able to discover what road your life wants to take you down. Once you find your perfect fit, it wont be long until you uncover passions, loves and desires for yourself that  mold to your stunning personality.
Reward Yourself You Winner You
We work so hard to always try and make things perfect and pristine, flawless. Yo, you do realize that that's nearly impossible? Seeing as how we all have flaws, everything has flaws! Nothing is perfect! Let's be real here folks, Titanic was the "ship that couldn't sink" I mean.... please....... too soon..? Anyway, what I am trying to get across is that you need to accept the little things in life as great mini victories. Although nothing may be perfect, we all need to lighten up and be proud of our selves for all that we do, no matter how big or small. Finally finish that English essay? Score!!! Ended World Hunger? RIGHT ON!! Some how made both of your cat eyes look seemingly even and fabulous? YOU DESERVE A MINI MEDAL! If not an award, definitely a pat on the back... It is proven (from my experiences) that the more I congratulate myself positively on all of the million little things that I do each day will make me sleep better at night, make the sun shine just a little bit brighter, just for me. Because my happiness makes me a better person inside and out. Our attitudes and feelings that we have towards our selves shape the way that people see us, and the way the world is around us. If you are positive and proud, everything around you will be all the more fantastic. And that will boost your confidence immensely!
Apply Yourself
This may not be the first time you have heard these things, whether they are in a new perspective or not, but go out and apply yourself. Like I said, you never know who you become until you try yourself out. So go out there be who you want to be, wear what you want to wear, love your beautiful little self. You'd be surprised just how confident you really are when you look up from the pavement and see just how wonderful you can be when you apply yourself to this spectacular world and your fantastic life.
Good luck, I believe in every tiny little bit of all of you, you will find your way down the road you're meant to be on, and find just what you love and who you desire to be.
