FLOWERS, FRIENDS, AND FOOD

Saturday, August 5, 2017

Ah Yes... the three most essential Fs in life, Flowers, Friends and Food. Honestly though, all I need in life if good company, good food, and nature.

Hey hey, happy Saturday (late Saturday, early Sunday) I hope y'all had a fabulous week, and an even better weekend!! This week was busy, busy, BUSY for me! Full with tiring shifts, and homework, yet also full of adventures with friends new and old!
This is somewhat of a Richmond Spotlight, celebrating both the ever so amazing Elizabeth, and my neighborhood juice bar, North End Juice Co. They specialize in doing juices, and various types of bowls. Naturally, Elizabeth and I got smoothie bowls, which were fruity and fantastic! And right around the corner was this beautiful floral mural, which totally set the tone for the sunshine-y day we had together! Elizabeth is such a great friend, I love how even though we haven't seen each other in a while we can pick up right where we left off :)

My goal for you this week is to reconnect with an old friend, and find a few simple things that make you happy in your life. xo, O

North End Juice Co. is located on 718 N. Cleveland St. Richmond, VA 23220
open Monday-Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 4:30pm

EASTER BUNNY RICE KRISPIE TREATS!

Monday, April 10, 2017

Hey everyone! Hope your Monday has been great so far and your week is off to a great start!! Mine certainly was since I made these super cute bunny rice krispie treats! In honor of Easter coming up, I thought I'd share a few Easter and spring time themed posts with you guys this week leading up to Sunday :) SO! To start things off, I'm sharing this super easy SUPER cute treat! As you all know, I live in a dorm, so I don't have an oven, a stove, or anything of that sort, however! These are dorm friendly *woohoo!* And easy as pie! Let's get started why don't we :)
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Fruity Pebbles
Rice Krispies
Marshmallows

Since I'm on a budget I chose what I could find in the store brand cheaper alternative,

Oh, and once I got home I realized the rice krispie treat recipe calls for 3 tablespoons of butter... which I didn't use at all! But HEY! They turned out just fine!
HERE'S HOW TO DO IT: (or at least... how I did it...)

pour some cereal into a large container (bowl is preferable, but when you don't have a kitchen, why have big bowls???)

microwave half an average cereal bowl size full of mini mallows, only half full because they do expand in the microwave and you don't want things getting too crazy!

scoop mallows into cereal and MIX!
Okay okay okay.... so this is the hard part, or shall I say the really really STICKY part! the spoon wasn't really working too well so I actually just used my hands to mix it all in! For the amount of cereal I poured in I did three or so bowls of mallows :)

THEN! Spread the goopy krispie mix onto a pan with FOIL on it. If you cut a large piece of foil and curl it around the edges, it will be easier to lift. The foil will help when you are cutting them, you can flip it over and they will be completely flat :)

Now now now, I know you are eager to eat them! And if you're anything like me and used your hands to mix it all up, I'm sure you've eaten some straight off your hands! (which please clean before making these! It's not cool to contaminate your treats!!!) BUT WAIT! You must let them COMPLETELY harden before cutting! I left them about two hours before I did anything, and that was perfect!

Lastly! Peel foil off of the pan and flip it upside down, so now the krispies are flat on the pan and the foil is facing up! Remove the foil to reveal a smooth(-ish) krispie surface ready to cut out bunnies!!! And with any knife of your choosing, cut out some bunnies, or eggs, or really whatever strikes your fancy! And if you're feeling extra cute, add a little marshmallow on the bunny to look like a tail :)
And that's it! Easy and totally not messy at all (that is a lie)! I really hope you guys like these as much as I do :) They were almost too cute to eat, but then I remembered how good they tasted off my hands so obvi they were even BETTER in bunny form!!!

Comment down below some of your favorite Easter traditions!! See ya next time :) xo, O

SAVANNAH SPOTLIGHT: Café M

Monday, April 3, 2017

Good morning loves, and happy Monday! This past weekend was one of my favorites, full of nonstop fun and activity. Bri, Cher, Alli and I all went to Café M on Saturday, and oh man do I wish I had one of those croissants to get me through this morning, but alas, Special K will have to do. Anywhooo... Café M is a little Parisian café on Bay St, overlooking river street on the upper level. We were all chatting how we would love having a kitchen that looked like Café M, all of the colors were so perfect, light mint green, pinks, yellows, what could be better?! I got the nutella and banana croissant sandwich. I HIGHLY recommend it, it was warm and oh so ooey gooey, full of chocolatey goodness, again, what could be better?!?! Hardly anything quite frankly... I didn't get the chance to try the macaroons, but seriously, so so cute. Not only do they make amazing croissants and macaroons, but they freshly bake baguettes and loafs of bread you can buy in house, basically the place smells like heaven. I really want to try one of their actual sandwiches, I will be going back for sure! Ugh... I can smell the bread now... if only the weekend were sooner... What's your favorite pastry?? xo, O
Café M is open from 8am-4pm everyday and is located at 128 E Bay St, Savannah, GA 31401

SUNFLOWER CUPCAKES!

Tuesday, March 28, 2017

Hello SpringBabes! In honor of spring time, I made these delish sunflower cupcakes that are SO SO easy to make and even BETTER to eat! All you need is four ingredients, a cupcake pan and holders and an oven, I think you can handle that right? Right!! Let's get cooking!!
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED:
cake mix +ingredients to make that
vanilla frosting
yellow + green food coloring
oreos
HERE'S HOW TO DO IT:
bake your cupcakes! I did strawberry just because that is my favorite flavor and the pink is so so cute!

Once totally cooled, split Oreos in half and place in the center of the cupcakes

Mix in two bowls, almost all frosting and yellow coloring for petals, and some frosting and green coloring for leaves

Pipe on one row on the outside of yellow for the first row of petals, and then right up to the Oreo, but not over the Oreo, pipe another layer of yellow, either over top or in between, pipe out the green frosting for the leaves.
AND THAT'S LITERALLY IT! I'm not any kind of expert cake decorator, like what so ever... And I REALLY don't know why SCAD doesn't have that at least as a minor, because it's a serious art, and not an easy one at that! Come on SCAD, step it up...

Anyway, I hope you all enjoy these! Be warned though, with all the frosting and what not, the Oreo can get somewhat soggy after a few days, so eat them up quickly :) And of COURSE, Enjoy!!!!! Let me know if you make them what you think by tagging me on Instagram, emailing me or really WHATEVER!

Savannah Spotlight: Below Zero Rolled Ice Cream

Saturday, January 14, 2017

Ever heard of rolled ice cream? You know, the super cool Thai inspired ice cream that is insanely fun and always so delicious? Yeah? yeah. Well we are so so lucky and have one of the few rolled ice cream spots right here in Savannah on Broughton Street!! This is not the first time I've been to Below Zero, it's actually probably my favorite spot in all of Savannah to get ice cream! So naturally, a Savannah Spotlight was highly necessary for this place :) Something sort of funny about this place is that it's connected to a seafood restaurant!? Yeah, I know so strange. So the ice cream magic is in the front and while you are waiting in line to get what you really came for (ice cream) you are standing next to the ordering counter for the seafood restaurant! I'm not really sure how they've worked it out, but it seems to be working for them. I'm pretty sure they are two separate entities but just share the same front door and space, I really have no clue.

Today I went with Lauren! Unfortunately every single table was full, I don't know if they were eating seafood or ice cream or what, but it was pretty packed. But of course it being a beautiful day, we just walked to a nearby square, I believe it was Reynolds Square if you are familiar with Historic Savannah. It was so beautiful! What's better than DELICIOUS ice cream, great friends and BEAUTIFUL scenery?! Not much if I'm honest... Oh and as for the price: for one cup, there aren't different sizes, it comes with I believe 6 rolls, whatever toppings come with your flavor, so for me I got smores so that comes with a gram cracker and a marshmallow, and three additional toppings all for $6. It's hard to finish one whole bowl, honestly we went at 1pm, it's 12:25 am right now and I'm STILL feeling full. Six doll hairs sounds sort of steep for ice cream but it's WORTH IT. Honestly beyond worth it. Everything about Below Zero is amazing. Basically if you come to Savannah, it's a must have :) If you ever do go, let me know what you think!

Below Zero is located on 116 E. Broughton St, Savannah, GA 31401
Open Monday-Thursday 11am-9pm
Friday-Saturday 11am-10pm
Sundays 12pm-9pm
and a little reminder ^ :)
hope your weekend is fabulous! xo

Savannah Spotlight: Mirabelle Café

Sunday, November 20, 2016

HELLO!!!! Tonight I'm introducing a new segment, Savannah Spotlight! I want to go around and give you little reviews of stores, cafés, restaurants and all the above! So that way, if you ever find yourself in Savannah, which hopefully one day everyone does seeing as it is a tremendously fabulous place and everyone SHOULD eventually visit, you'll have a little travel guide from yours truly! Do you remember the segment Words With Sunday? It's sort of like that.
SO! Without further ado... the first café I'll share with y'all is the Mirabelle Café and Suites, surprise! It's also a little hotel/inn/bed and breakfast thing! Although, I didn't stay the night here, I did enjoy brunch at the café this morning with my lovely roomies Cher and Alli :) (Cher is my new roomie and I've never been happier omg) Basically they are a waffle and panini café, what more does one need?! They have both sweet and savory waffles and although I have yet to try them, the panini's also look so dang good. The best part is that everything is pretty reasonably priced too! Especially in somewhere like Savannah, which is pretty touristy, they have the potential to make things hella expensive, like I could have totally seen these waffles being like $13 or something stupidly overpriced like that, but no! (my low-budget college wallet is thanking me)
Also another thing that is amazing about Mirabelle's besides the waffles, is the atmosphere! Any establishment that is highly photogenic knows what they're doing. Like cute cozy comfy dark cafés are nice, but the second I spy a marble table or windows supplying so much gosh dang natural lighting I am all OVVVERRRR that ish. Thank you Mirabelle's for fulfilling my aesthetic needs. All in all Mirabelle's is a hit in my book :) Thank you to the SCAD sophomore who's insta I saw last night of you enjoying waffles, without you my Savannah Spotlight dreams wouldn't have come true today. If you're reading this you are a gem.
I hope everyone's weekend went well! Mine sure did, this evening my friends and I celebrated "Friendsgiving" at a great restaurant called Sapphire Grill, oh man, not only did I eat my body weight in the warm soft magical beautiful wonderful amazing bread that just kept coming, but also the decadent flourless chocolate torte was the BEST way to end the night, and I actually was able to bring some home! Me? Bringing home leftover cake? like WHAT?! I literally have a second STOMACH for desserts, my sweet tooth is ridiculously sweet, and I'm constantly craving. So the fact that I was able to bring some HOME?! INCREDIBLE! Anyway, long story short, my weekend was so great. What about you? xo

Mirabelle's Suites and Café is located on 313 Abercorn St. Savannah, GA 31401
Café open seven days a week from 8am to 5pm

Enjoy!
